Gear Update – Pflueger President First Impressions

Finally retired my 15-year-old Zebco 33. Served me well but it was time. Picked up a Pflueger President spinning combo for under a hundred bucks at the local shop.

First impression after a full afternoon on the water: smooth. Really, genuinely smooth. The drag system alone made the upgrade worth it. Night and day difference from what I’d been using.

Quick Review

Casts further than I expected for the price point. Handles 8lb mono without any line management issues. The graphite body keeps weight down enough for all-day use without my wrist complaining.

Not a fancy reel. Not trying to be. It works well and it didn’t break the bank. That’s all I needed it to do and it delivered. Sometimes the mid-range stuff is exactly right.
