Fished a new creek mouth yesterday. Walked right past the obvious spot — you know the one, worn path down the bank, bait containers scattered around, the place everybody and their cousin fishes. Found a small eddy behind some fallen timber about forty yards upstream that nobody was looking at.
Three nice crappie in twenty minutes. All on small jigs. Nobody else even glanced at that water the entire time I was there.
Lesson Learned
The best spots often aren’t the ones with beaten paths leading to them. Take the extra five minutes to walk further and explore before committing. Scout before you cast. The fish don’t know they’re supposed to live where everyone fishes.
That little eddy is now in my regular rotation. Already looking forward to checking it again this weekend when the water drops a bit.
